Testosterone pellets are a treatment alternative to hormone replacement therapy. They are about the size of a grain of rice, and the doctor will put them under the skin.

What are testosterone pellets? | side effects of Testopel?

These pellets contain lightened testosterone and deliver a consistent, low dose of this hormone to a person up to six months at a time.

TESTOPEL® (testosterone pellets) are cylindrically shaped pellets 3.2mm (1/8 inch) in size and about 9mm long. Each sterile pill contains a weight of approximately 78mg (75mg testosterone) and is ready for implantation.

Androgens are steroids that promote and maintain primary and secondary male sexual characteristics. Testosterone is a member of this category.

Ingredients

Each TESTOPEL® (testosterone pellets) subcutaneous contains 75mg testosterone. In addition, each pellet contains the following inactive ingredients: stearic acid NF 0.97mg and polyvinylpyrrolidone USP 2mg.

TESTOPEL® (testosterone pellets) contains crystalline testosterone. When implanted under the skin, the pellets slowly release hormones with a long-acting androgenic effect.

SIDE EFFECTS of Testosterone pellets:

The following adverse reactions were found during use after approval of testosterone replacement therapy, including TESTOPEL®. Because these responses are voluntarily reported from people of unknown size, it is not always possible to honestly measure their frequency or to establish relationships that cause drug exposure.

Plant Infection and Pellet Extrusion: 

Endocrine and Urogenital, male. Gynecomastia with excessive duration and length of penile erections. Oligospermia can occur in high doses (see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY).

Skin and Appendages. Hirsutism, male pattern baldness, and acne.

Heart Disorders. Myocardial infarction, stroke.

Disruption of Fluid and Electrolyte. Storage of sodium, chloride, water, potassium, calcium, and inorganic phosphates.

Intestines. Nausea, cholestatic jaundice, modification of liver function tests, rarely hepatocellular neoplasms, and peliosis hepatis.

Hematologic. Compressions II, V, VII, and X, hemorrhage in patients on anticoagulant-treated therapy, as well as polycythemia.

Nervous System. Increased or decreased libido, headache, anxiety, depression, and general paresthesia.

The body. Increased serum cholesterol.

Muscle Disorders: Venous thromboembolism (see WARNINGS).

Mixed. Usually an anaphylactoid reaction.
