Are you a ‘testosterone’ or a ‘dopamine?’

Ten years ago, the naturalist Helen Fisher began answering the question of how we choose our loved ones. Dr. Fisher is known for his research that scans the human brain in various stages of love, and he went to search for sensory cues.

He discovered them - and, in the process, developed a broader personality trait that, unlike many others, was based on brain science rather than mental functioning. The Fisher Temperament Inventory estimates the condition, which comes from our genes, hormones, and neurotransmitters. It can help people understand themselves and why they are attracted to certain people, romantically and as friends or co-workers. (It turns out that some forms of personality are attracted to people who oppose them, while others are attracted to the same people.)
